Conrad Murray has been released from prison.Michael Jackson's personal physician was jailed for his involuntary manslaughter in November 2011, receiving a four-year term.
He was released from the Los Angeles County Jail early this morning, which the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has confirmed. Although he has only served half of his sentence, this is normal in the US legal system.
Jackson died of acute Propofol intoxication in 2009, when he was preparing for his This Is It series of comeback shows in London. Propofol is a powerful anaesthetic usually used to put surgery patients to sleep and during Murray's trial it was claimed the King of Pop used it to help him rest as he suffered from insomnia.
The doctor always insisted he had done nothing wrong and did not contribute to Jackson's death as the singer administered the drug to himself when he wasn't looking, but it was found that he had acted with criminal negligence.
Jackson's mother Katherine went on to sue concert promoter AEG Live, claiming the company did not act in her son's best interests by employing Murray. Throughout both trials the star's mental and physical state was questioned, with claims he was weak and couldn't perform properly. Katherine did not win her case against AEG Live.
Murray's medical license was blocked after his conviction, but it has been claimed he is working to get it reinstated.
