"I Love It" is a song by Swedish synthpop duo Icona Pop featuring British recording artist Charli XCX. It was released in May 2012 as adigital download in Sweden. The song was added to their debut studio album Icona Pop, as well as their EP Iconic, and their upcoming international album This Is....[3] The song entered the Swedish Singles Chart at number 48 and peaked at number two.
The song was placed on multiple year-end lists, including Rolling Stone, which ranked it at number 35,[4] and Pitchfork, which ranked it at number 50.[5] The song became Icona Pop's first US hit, peaking at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100[6] and was certified double-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, denoting over 2 million copies sold in the United States. In July 2013, over a year after it was released elsewhere, the song charted at #1 on the UK Singles chart. It also featured in both Microsoft Internet Explorer's latest advert and Samsung's demonstration of the Samsung Galaxy S4.
The track was met with very positive reviews upon its release. Pitchfork Media labeled it "Best New Music". Amrit Singh for Stereogumdescribed it as "fun",[1] Heather Phares commented Jawo and Hjelt "half-sung, half-shouted vocals and revved-up synths make the song inescapably catchy".[7
The song first gained attention in the United States as the theme song for the MTV Jersey Shore spinoff, Snooki & JWoww. The song was featured in the January 2013 episode "Bad Friends" of the HBO show Girls, following which the song performed better in digital downloads than upon initial release and the March 2013 episode "Bring It On" of the CW show The Vampire Diaries.[8] The song was covered on the Glee episode "All or Nothing" replacing the word "shit" to "stuff". The song appeared in the 2013 film Ladies Man: A Made Movie. The song was heard in the trailer for the movie Fun Size. It is also the theme tune and title track toTVI's Portuguese teen soap I Love It.[9]
On 5 August 2013, the Sesame Workshop released a parody, called "Me Want It (But Me Wait)", featuring Cookie Monster.[10]
The song is also featured in the soundtrack for the 2012 racing video game Need for Speed: Most Wanted[11] and a commercial for the Samsung Galaxy S4.[12]
The song was used the trailer of 2013 movie The Heat starring Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock
