Woman shot and injured in Half Way Tree

KINGSTON, Jamaica -- A woman was Friday morning rushed to hospital after she was shot and injured in Half Way Tree near the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) Transport Centre.
Details of the shooting are unclear at this time but reports are that at about 11:45 am an explosion was heard and the woman seen suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.


A man who claimed to be an eyewitness said that there was an altercation between a man and a woman when the incident took place.
"Police saw the man and the woman in a fight and attempted to quell the situation," the alleged eyewitness said.
Unconfirmed reports are that as the police led the man away the two were confronted by the woman who had a knife.
Reports are that the policeman fired a single shot and the woman was struck.
Officials from the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) are now probing the incident.
