British woman Andrea Waldeck faces death penalty after admitting smuggling 1.5kg of crystal meth into Indonesia

A British former PCSO is facing death by firing squad after admitting to smuggling in Indonesia.
Andrea Waldeck, 43, was found with 1.5kg of crystal meth hidden inside black bags in her underwear as she was arrested in her hotel room.
The ex-police community support officer was followed out of Surabaya airport in April after officers in Indonesia’s second largest city got a tip-off she was carrying the drug, known locally as Shabu Shabu.
Waldeck, from Gloucestershire, claimed her boyfriend, who lives in China, told her to take it to a man in Indonesia in exchange for £3,100.
Indonesia has some of the world’s toughest drug regulations and the prosecution said the accused violated the narcotics law, which carries a possible death sen-tence.
Waldeck joined Gloucestershire Police as a traffic warden in 2003 and became a PCSO before quitting last year.
She told friends in a Facebook message from jail just weeks ago: “Your support means the world to me. I’m so very sorry I’ve disappointed you all.”
The case comes after British grandmother Lindsay Sandiford continues to fight against her death sentence after she was caught trying to smuggle £1.6million worth of cocaine into Bali.
The 57-year-old from Redcar, Teesside, lost an appeal at the Indonesian Supreme Court in August and faces death by firing squad.
