A woman who has not been seen for 30 YEARS has been found dead at her home, along with the body of her daughter.
Police broke into the Oxford home of Pauline and Caroline Jessett last week, after being contacted by Environmental Health over reports of a strong smell.
Downstairs, they discovered the body of Caroline, who was in her 50s, and thought to have died several months ago.
But detectives could not go upstairs in the house before engineers had secured the walls, because of concerns about the stability of the house.
When they finally gained access this week, they found the body of Pauline - in her 70s - in an upstairs room.
She is thought to have been dead for months, or possibly years.
Post mortem examinations failed to find a cause of death for the two women, but neighbours described them as recluses.
A man who lived in their street told the Oxford Mail that he had not seen Pauline for 30 years, and Caroline had not been seen for six months.
Raymond Bailey, 83, said that the pair were so reclusive neighbours had no reason to suspect anything was wrong.
He said: "There were no dustbins left out, no papers, no milk bottles.
"We never used to see them. They wouldn't have opened the door to anybody."
Other neighbours described how they noticed flies beginning to appear at the house over the summer.
The deaths are not being treated as suspicious.
