"Counting Stars" is a song by American pop rock band OneRepublic from their third studio album, Native (2013). The song was written by lead singer Ryan Tedder, and produced by Tedder and Noel Zancanella. It was released as the album's third single on June 14, 2013 in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland.
The song has reached great international success, marking one of the band's more successful singles in recent years. It has peaked at number 7 so far on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming their first Top 10 hit since "Good Life" in 2010 It has also topped the charts in the United Kingdom for two non-consecutive weeks and charting within the top ten in nine countries, including attaining top five placements in Australia, Germany, Ireland and New Zealand.
The song's accompanying music video, directed by James Lees, features the band performing in a basement beneath an ongoing church congregation."Counting Stars" was promoted on The Voice with contestant Michelle Chamuel in June 2013.

Music video

The music video was filmed on May 10, 2013, in New OrleansLouisiana, and premiered on May 31, 2013. The video features the band performing the song in a gloomy basement surrounded by hanging light bulbs — which is interspersed with scenes of several people in a Christian revival service. Throughout the video a trickling water runs down the light bulb and it explodes setting a black out chain reaction. The people jumping also causes the roof of the band members room to slowly break. At the end of the video, one of the people in the service falls through the floor, coming through the ceiling of the room the band is performing in. The video also shows clips of an alligatorcrawling through the basement.
