Weir offers patronage for CB Group UWI 5K Run/Walk

OLYMPIC bronze medallist and World Championships silver medallist over 200 metres, Warren Weir, has welcomed the opportunity of being patron for the second staging of the CB Group UWI 5K Run/Walk which takes place on Sunday, November 17.
The second annual event will seek to generate funds which will go directly to sports and academic development at the University of the West Indies through scholarship funding.

Weir will be leading the charge to not only garner support from the public, but also from fellow athletes in order to ensure the success of the CB Group UWI 5K Run/Walk.
The inaugural staging saw the event making history when it made some $18 million which went directly to student development.
Weir's patronage is a welcome boost to the event as the organisers seek to continue the drive and improve on the inaugural success, ensuring more students will be able to benefit from the proceeds of the initiative.
The sprinter will be joined in the rallying of support by the inaugural scholarship recipients who are all ambassadors for this year's staging.
The public is also invited to lend their support by registering to participate, running or walking, on the day. Registration is only $1,000 and is currently open via the University of the West Indies Sports Department.
Groups of 50 people or more will pay $900 per person, while all students can register for only $500. Running Events Jamaica will be in charge of this year's activities. Registration through them began on Monday, October 28.
The second staging of the run/walk will get underway at the UWI Mona Bowl at 7:00 am.
