85 People Are Richer Than Half The World

Be jealous, be very jealous. There are an astonishing 85 people who are just as rich as half of the world. The very rich may enjoy the statistic, but it brings up serious issues of global economic inequality. In an effort to target a more equal economic ground, Oxfam is encouraging leaders to take a pledge of changing the pay of the companies they control, and to support a more aggressive taxation. Hey, sharing is caring!
President Obama is now targeting sexual crimes that happen on college campuses. The President, along with the White House Council of Women and Girls, have discovered that 1 in 5 women have been sexually assaulted at school, but only 12 percent have reported it. The report, “Rape and Sexual Assault: A Renewed Call to Action,” has prompted Obama to sign a presidential memorandum to create a task force to protect all students from sexual assault.
Police Chief David Counceller has the worst luck with guns. The Indiana police chief shot himself in the leg at a gun shop over the weekend in Indianapolis, just 15 years after he shot himself in the hand. “I need to pay more attention,” Counceller said. “I know what the dangers are. It was pure carelessness on my part.” You think?
So this happened. A man in (yes, you guessed it) Florida is calling self-defense after hopping a fence to shoot and kill a 21-year-old in a hoodie. Suspect Claudius Smith claims that the young man, Ricardo Sanes, was a burglar and felt threatened that Sanes’ pants were “hanging low and his hands were in his hoodie pockets.” Witnesses say the young man didn’t present a threat to anyone, and didn’t appear to have stolen anything from the Orlando resident. When Smith returned home after the shooting, he claimed that Sanes tried to steal from him and never mentioned the shooting to his girlfriend. He later confessed to police that he killed Sanes in self-defense. Police are dismissing the idea of the ‘Stand Your Ground’ law applying in the case.
