a TON of marijuana washes up in Southern California in Boat

A fishing boat carrying upwards of one ton of marijuana washed up onto the Southern California coast Monday morning.
The 30-foot-boat, outfitted with outboard power, was found near Ventura and the Los Angeles county line near Leo Carillo State Park, NBC Los Angeles reported.
Authorities could not confirm the exact weight of the cargo, but estimated one ton after a viewing.
While one person was detained at the beach, no arrests or injuries have been reported in connection to the vessel.
The U.S. Coast Guard said a helicopter crew could not locate anyone in the water.
The boat, the latest drug-smuggling vessel to be found along the shoreline, was discovered at 8 a.m. that morning.
More than 2,000 pounds of marijuana were seized in September and 18 people arrested after the California National Guard saw a panga boat near Arroyo Quernada Beach.
Not long after, authorities stopped a truck involved in a smuggling scheme.
In March 2013 and estimated $4 million worth of marijuana wrapped in bundles washed ashore near Santa Barbara and a 30-foot panga boat with perhaps 20 fuel containers was found close to the scene.
A U.S. Coast Guardsman was killed in December 2012 when he was thrown from a boat that was rammed by a panga boat under investigation for smuggling off the Southern California coast.
In that case, two suspects were taken into custody.
Marijuana seizures have dropped in recent years, going from 124,500 pounds in 2012 to 81,000 last year.
