Ed Sheeran Serenades Sick Teen Minutes Before Death

Sheeran "sang her to sleep," says the brother of Triona Priestley.

Earlier this week, Ed Sheeran gave a special call to Dublin teenager Triona Priestley, performing her favorite song over the phone just moments before she tragically lost her battle with cystic fibrosis.
According to Ireland's Independent (via the L.A. Times), the 15-year-old Priestley was seriously ill and asked to hear from her favorite singer, Sheeran, as her dying wish last week. With the help of her brother, Colm Priestley, a Twitter campaign based around the hashtag #SongForTri started last week and became a trending topic on Sunday.
On Tuesday afternoon, Sheeran dialed Priestley and performed her favorite song, "Little Bird," over the phone. Soon after, Priestley -- who reportedly had been in intensive care for roughly two weeks -- passed away.
"Myself and my family would like to thank Ed Sheeran and everyone who started and supported the #SongForTri campaign," Colm Priestley told the Independent following Triona's death. "What they gave us and her was a beautiful last moment together. Triona slipped into a sleep as Ed was singing to her and passed away shortly afterwards. So Ed Sheeran sang her to sleep.
"We would like to thank everyone who played their part in making that happen," Priestley continued. "We are all so proud of Triona and how she fought Cystic Fibrosis. Everyone loved Triona so much and she knew that. Thank you."
On Tuesday, Sheeran posted to Twitter, "Rest in peace Triona, so heartbreaking x." He has previously tweeted at her on Sunday, "get well soon dude and il see you when I'm over in October xx"
