Today we found out Pebbles was serious about suing Viacom over “Crazy Sexy Cool: The TLC Story.” Page Six is reporting that the R&B group’s former manager just slapped the mass media company with a $40 million lawsuit over the TLC biopic which aired on VH1 in October, claiming that the movie portrays her “as a conniving and dishonest business woman who hoodwinked three innocent girls and exploited their talent for her own personal gain.”
Mmmm that sounds about right.
In case you don’t remember all the details of TLC’s story, what it basically boiled down to was Chilli, T-Boz, and Left Eye got a bum deal, were rewarded for their hard work and major earnings with Rav 4s, and shared the same lawyers and accountants as their manager Pebbles which means any attempts to check their financials and get the money they deserved were halted — all of which resulted in the ladies filing bankruptcy after selling 11 million copies of “Crazy, Sexy, Cool” alone.
Pebbles, of course, claims none of this is true, saying she never controlled TLC’s lawyers or accountants, never withheld their contract terms from them, and always paid them what they were owed — perhaps what she thought they were owed. Consequently, she says Viacom ““ignored fundamental canons of journalistic and literary conduct by publishing false and defamatory accusations with actual malice.”
As for Viacom’s response, a spokesperson told Page Six: “It’s our policy not to comment on matters in litigation.”
