Rihanna donates $25k to LA Police Foundation

Pop singer Rihanna will donate $25,000 to the Los Angeles police cadet program and the families of officers killed in the line of duty recently, Police Commissioner Steve Soboroff said today.
“I want to give a shout-out to Rihanna” for the financial pledge, Soboroff said at today’s commission meeting.
The donation will go to the Los Angeles Police Foundation, which runs the cadet program, which teaches leadership, teamwork and other life skills to youths.
Soboroff, who sat near Rihanna at Saturday’s playoff game, where Los Angeles Clippers beat the Oklahoma City Thunder, also is auctioning his iPhone, which Rihanna dropped and cracked while the two were taking a “selfie.”
Soboroff took no umbrage at the slip-up. Instead, he took the opportunity to raise money for police cadet program and the families of officers.
Soboroff is now fielding bids for his damaged smartphone on Ebay. The latest bid now at $1,225 with two days left.
Off-duty Detective Ernest Allen Sr., 52, died Friday on steep Loma Vista Drive in Beverly Hills when an out-of-control concrete mixer collided with his pickup truck. Allen died in almost the same spot where on-duty Officer Nicolas Lee, 40, was killed March 7 in a similar collision.
Officer Roberto Sanchez, 32, died in a May 3 collision allegedly caused by a friend of a pursuit suspect.
On April 5, motorcycle Officer Chris Cortijo, 51, was struck from behind by an SUV while stopped at a red light at Lankershim Boulevard and Saticoy Street in Sun Valley. He died four days later. The driver was charged with driving under the influence of cocaine.
