Media personality Nikki Z, is gearing up to host and co-produce Dancehall Got Talent, which is a new US-based talent competition geared at exposing dancehall artistes, especially to the international market.
The talent show is to be produced by LA Wright and Kevin Beswick, and will be televised by US media.
The producers of the show, in a release to The STAR, say the main aim of the competition is to break down barriers limiting the potential of dancehall music.
"Dancehall Got Talent's mission is to break down the walls and prejudices that have prevented the growth and development of the genre, while catapulting new artistes in dancehall to the mainstream," the release said.
In addition to Nikki Z, other dancehall practitioners to be featured on the show are recording artistes Timberlee and Ed Robinson, who along with Irie Jam radio personality DJ Roy and entrepreneur Dougie Platinum, will act as judges.
The first of eight recordings for the show, will be held on August 30, 2014 at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center 153-10 Jamaica Avenue in Queens, New York. The winner of Dancehall Got Talent will receive a US$5,000 grand prize, a recording contract and global distribution deal. The dance crew winners will be the official dancers for the show in the second season.
"For me, this is what I have been working for most of my career. The chance to really show how powerful and how magical the reggae dancehall culture is. The good, bad and ugly. To be an executive producer on such an historic adventure is something I can't translate into words. This is just the beginning of much more to come - proves that belief in self is so important," Nikki Z said in the release.
Dancehall Got Talent will be aired world-wide on OmniPresent Media (OPM), Digital Network simulcast,Roku, Smart TV's, Apple TV, XBox, PS3, Wii, iPads, Google Play, Amazon, Tablets, PC's, Mac's, Blu Ray Players, Smart Phones, iTunes and Androids.
Several recording artistes are also expected to play a role in the show as guest judges or make cameos. Some of these include Mavado, Morgan Heritage, Acehood, Samantha J, Assassin, KES The Band, Cecile, Beenie Man and Danielle DI.
