Cher mourning Strassman

Cher has paid tribute to late actress Marsha Strassman.

The actress, best-known for her role in 1970s sitcom Welcome Back, Kotter, passed away Friday, USA Today reports.

Cher was struck by the news as it broke at the weekend, and took to Twitter to share high praise of the much-loved actress.

'Wanted U2 No [know],a Funny,Talented Friend Died.Not 4U 2feel sorry 4me,but she died alone, &Energy from U is powerful &Sends [love] Marsha Strassman (sic),' she tweeted her 2.3 million followers.

Marsha's sister confirmed her death to Deadline Hollywood Sunday. She was 66.

Producer/director Bob Weide also took to Twitter, appearing to be the first to break news of her death on social media.

'So sad that a sweet friend, kind person & wonderful actress Marcia Strassman lost her brave battle with cancer today,' he wrote.

Marsha was also known for her role on hit US TV drama M*A*S*H before she starred in Kotter as the wife of the title character, a teacher tasked with schooling a trouble-making group of kids, including Vinnie Barbarino, played by John Travolta. She later appeared in 1989 family comedy Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.

Cher is currently on a break from her Dressed To Kill Tour, scheduled to resume in Lubbock, Texas November 9 before wrapping in Fargo, North Dakota February 4.
