After nine years of a potentially viable career on the Hotel Cabaret circuit and winning second place in the Digicel Rising Stars 2011 competition, it would be fair to say now is the time for this young star to dominate.
Latoya Jackson, who performs as Latty J, may be called a feminist by some after hearing her new single ‘Same Pay’, however Latty sees this as more of an avenue to speak for women, not just what is physically appealing about them but matters of value. Her MV Music family, including CEO Mr Vegas, fully supports this concept and the single itself, including facilitating production work on the track with noted producer Danny Brownie.
Latty J admits to facing discrimination as well in the past “the first time I ever worked as a security guard most of the men were saying I’m not cut out for the job… I was too girly.”
With the ‘Same Pay’ track, Latty hopes to bring attention to the hard work that women do in male dominated fields. “I think it’s gonna show the real strength of women and not just child bearing. I know the females will appreciate it, and the men who believe in equality will love this track” Latty J announced.
The track also shows Latty J’s strength and versatility as a talented Sinjay, a new sound that has been cultivated over the last three years working closely with Mr Vegas. The hard core sultry sound was first revealed on her ‘Put Up Unu Hand’ single voiced on the Nuh Fraid Riddim Medley produced by Jah Snowcone, and later on the wildly popular ‘Who Rule’ Collaboration with Mr Vegas, now listed on the Tempo Cross Caribbean Countdown.
Latty J wants more than just a listening ear for the ‘Same Pay’ single. She wants DJs and supporters of music to actually listen to the message and in turn act upon it.
The Music Video for ‘Same Pay’ is the next item on the MV Music agenda.
