A two-year prison sentence was handed down to a 25-year-old man who stabbed his ex-girlfriend nine times.
Ricardo Hibbert received the sentenced on Friday in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court, after pleading guilty to unlawful wounding.
The court was told that on the day in question, Hibbert used a knife to stab the complainant resulting in injuries to her shoulder, breast and back. The complainant was admitted to hospital for three days.
Hibbert stood in court speechless when asked by the magistrate why he should not go to jail for the offence.
Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey said, "This is not the time to be cute ..."
He was subsequently sentenced.
