Mary J. Blige father critical after stabbing

Thomas Blige, the father of singer Mary J. Blige, is in critical condition at a Kalamazoo, MI hospital after being stabbed during a domestic dispute.

Blige was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital Thursday morning after be repeatedly stabbed by Cheryl White, 50, an ex-girlfriend of the 63 year old man.

The incident reportedly started after Blige saw a woman deflating the tires on his car outside of the apartment in Battle Creek in which he lived. An argument ensued resulting in White stabbing the man three times, including once in the neck.

White fled to scene and was arrested shortly after at her apartment in the same complex.

Blige was taken to the hospital where he was taken into surgery to repair the stab wounds. Police say that he died twice on the operating table but was revived. The hospital has not issued any statements.

White remains in jail on $500,000 bail and is charged with assault with intent to murder. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 7.
