Westmoreland-based artiste, Bookie, recently returned to Jamaica after a successful show in Guyana, flashing four gold teeth, a new look that has excited his huge fan base in Savanna-la-Mar.
"Right now, mi get four gold teeth from down a Guyana. Mi put four up top and mi did plan fi put four down a di side, but mi jus do that first. The Guyanese dem rate me as a Jamaican, so dem say dem a gi me piece a gold fi carry home, so mi choose gold pon mi teeth, so when mi laugh, di gal dem see it," he said, waxing lyrical.
Bookie, who was once known as Fadah Bookie, first came to national attention a few years ago when Kartel bigged him up, saying: "Fadah Bookie, the Feds a move spooky." Since that time, Bookie has built up a decent reputation in Guyana for his rhymes on Bagga Talk and the conscious single, Shower Ah Rain, which have become street anthems in that country. In January, he pulled more than 3,000 persons to a show held in a venue 25 minutes outside of Georgetown, Guyana.
a lot of respect
He has a lot of respect for the Guyanese people.
"They love reggae music. Guyanese are the next set of black people who are closest to Jamaica. We have the same hard life, same poverty, same challenges, same messed-up system, just different accents and different currencies," Bookie said.
He returned to the island after doing promotions for several weeks. Now, he is turning his attention to his latest projects. There are plans to shoot a video for his latest single, Touch Yu Ankle, on MC Nuffy's new riddim.
Other songs include a collaboration with Lisa Hyper and projects with Andrew Blacks, UIM Records, and Young Vibez Production.
