The British singer recently released second album x and has been entertaining fans at events since hitting the big time with debut record + in 2011.
While many celebrities love getting their wellies out and hitting muddy fields to hear others sing, the 23-year-old can't watch shows without getting itchy feet.
"I don't enjoy watching another act perform because I just think, 'Oh man, I want to be up there.' That's why I don't enjoy festivals anymore," he revealed to video interview with German news agency dpa.
"I didn't stop going because I started getting recognised, but because I just know what it's like to be the one on stage now, and that's just more fun. These live shows just aren't for me anymore - it sucks."
Ed's first single from x, Sing, ended up becoming his first number one in the UK. He might be a superstar now, but the redheaded musician isn't living a lavish lifestyle.
'You never want to be wasteful,' he reasoned to irishexaminer.com.
'[I use] my Barclays [bank] student account. I've not upgraded because I don't spend much money. If I had all my money in one account I would spend all of it, so I get an allowance.
'[I pay myself] maybe a grand. I really don't spend much money. I spend most of it on taxis!'
These days, Ed can treat himself to a celebratory drink though. He briefly stopped hitting the booze to concentrate on music, but has eased up now.
'I used to drink. Heavily,' he admitted. 'I came up in pubs and clubs, so you get paid in alcohol, and, as soon as I signed a record deal, I thought: 'I just need to focus this year. I can't have anything f**k up.'
"The day I started drinking again was the day the album sold a million copies and I was like: 'Right, done. Back to normality.'"
