Bobby Shmurda is number one on multiple Billboard charts this week.
His gold single Hot Boy sits atop the Billboard R&B Hip Hop Songs chart, Hot Rap Songs chart, Rap Streaming Songs chart, and R&B/ Hip Hop Streaming Songs chart. The song is number six on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.
Born in Florida to a Jamaican father and Trinidadian mother, the 20-year-old Shmurda (given name Ackquille Jean Pollard) later relocated to New York.
The success of Hot Boy, which samples the beat from Lloyd Banks' 2012 hit single Jackpot, is attributed to the Shmoney Dance that went viral after the single's music video. This led to Shmurda being signed to Epic Records.
Several remixes of the single have been making the rounds. A reggae version featuring Junior Reid, Mavado, Popcaan and Jah X was recently released, while there is another with American artistes Chris Brown, Fabolous, Jadakiss and Busta Rhymes.
Shmurda's follow-up single Bobby Bitch occupies number 96 on the Billboard Hot 100, and 29 on the R&B/Hip Hop singles charts.
